VispSilver project
VispSilver is an innovative project that aims to improve the quality of life of our elderly population and promote their active participation in social and cultural life. The main objective of VispSilver is to develop an intergenerational policy on a participatory basis. This means that older citizens are actively involved in the process in order to understand their needs and wishes and incorporate them into the strategy. The aim is to promote integration and life in old age
and to make Visp an age-friendly place.
Initial situation in the municipality of Visp
- 2118 people are over 60 years old, which corresponds to 26 percent
- 5 out of 9 municipal councillors are 60+
- By 2030, a third of Visp's population will be over 60 years old
- Between 2015 and 2045, the life expectancy of the population will increase by 5 years (women 90 years, men 85 years)
What does the name VispSilver mean?
This name stands for an innovative approach with which the municipality of Visp is responding to demographic change. "Silver" symbolizes brilliance, stability and wisdom and represents the transition phase, which is characterized by experience and social value. "VispSilver" is not only a strategy for coping with demographic change, but also a vision that understands and promotes ageing as an enrichment of society.
The VispSilver project idea
- Demographic change as an opportunity: Recognizing and supporting ageing as a valuable part of society.
- Comprehensive generational policy: To sustainably improve the quality of life of the over-60s.
- Participatory approach: To actively involve the population in the development process in order to take their needs and wishes into account.
- Social integration and participation: To involve the 60+ generations even more through targeted measures and programs, and diversity requires mixed-age teams.
