After spreading to several cantons since 2003, the tiger mosquito appeared in the Valais region for the first time in 2019. It is particularly undesirable because, unlike native species, it is active during the day .
To be able to respond to potential heat waves, the Canton of Valais is activating its seasonal monitoring system to prevent heat waves and extreme heat. This step marks the start of enhanced monitoring of weather conditions and the implementation of measures to protect public health—particularly that of the most vulnerable individuals—as well as workers exposed to high outdoor temperatures.
For operational and safety reasons, this work will be carried out at night from approximately 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Train service will not be affected.

All official fire pits in the municipalities of Ausserberg, Baltschieder, Eggerberg, Lalden, and Visp have been closed due to Forest Fire Alert Level 4, following a decision by the regional fire commission, and may not be used until further notice.
