Barrier-Free Parking System at the La Poste Parking Garage

In mid-February, the municipality of Visp will introduce Peter Park’s digital parking management solution at the La Poste parking garage. The system operates without barriers or tickets; instead, it automatically calculates parking duration and fees using license plate recognition technology at the entry and exit points that complies with data protection regulations. Mobility Hub Parkservice Switzerland GmbH is responsible for operations at the parking facilities.

In the future, driving through the parking garage will be seamless and convenient, with no need to stop at all, because the digital parking management system operates without barriers or tickets. Instead, the solution scans vehicle license plates at the entrance and exit in compliance with data protection regulations and automatically calculates the parking duration and fee.

The new barrier-free parking system replaces the outdated, unreliable barrier system. The user-friendly system requires minimal hardware and almost entirely eliminates components prone to wear and tear. Payment is cashless, and the payment system offers customers a variety of modern payment options.

The scanners used are supplied by Peter Park System GmbH, a systems provider specializing in digital, barrier-free parking management. Mobility Hub Parkservice Switzerland GmbH is responsible for operations on the parking lot. The latter will be available to answer any questions parkers may have regarding parking. Contact details can be found on the posted signage.

Barrier-Free Parking – How It Works and Important Information for Parkers:
When entering and exiting, the vehicle’s license plate is scanned, and the parking duration is automatically calculated. The payment kiosks feature a bright display, are quick and easy to use, and accept card payments. Payment can also be made online or via Twint. Signs on-site remind drivers not to forget to pay.

What data is collected? An image of the vehicle’s license plate and a text file with a time and date stamp to determine the parking duration are recorded. There is expressly no video recording. No public grounds are recorded either. The license plate is read in compliance with data protection regulations.

What happens to my data? Upon entry, only the license plate is recorded. It is not possible to identify who the driver is. Only in the event of a violation of parking regulations are additional personal data relevant to the legal pursuit of the violation—including that of the vehicle owner and the driver—processed. Vehicle owner information, such as name and address, is obtained through a vehicle owner inquiry with the relevant motor vehicle registration offices, along with the license plate number; the driver’s information is requested, if necessary, from the identified vehicle owner and may also be shared with third parties for the purposes described above. If there is no parking violation and payment is made before leaving the parking lot or online in a timely manner, the entry and exit data are automatically deleted.

The extensive signage is part of the necessary and required information regarding the parking process.
