Visp is the capital of the district of Visp and the regional centre of the socio-economic region of Visp/Westlich Raron and, mainly due to the Chemie-Werke of Lonza AG with its around 4,500 jobs and the around 700 small and medium-sized enterprises SMEs, is the industrial and commercial centre of Upper Valais, which means that Visp has around 10,000 jobs on 8,135 inhabitants (as of 31. 12. 2021).
