General Ban on Outdoor Fires

Extremely high fire risk

Due to the very high risk of fire, the Canton of Valais is imposing a general ban on outdoor fires, effective Thursday, June 25, 2026. Barbecuing remains permitted on private property within built-up areas, subject to strict conditions. The public is urged to follow the instructions of the municipal authorities.

However, barbecuing remains permitted exclusively in private areas within built-up areas and under the responsibility of the person lighting the fire, provided that the barbecue is placed on a non-flammable surface (concrete base, stone slab, etc.) and is at least 10 meters away from any flammable surface or vegetation (fields, bushes, etc.; 100 meters from the forest).

The public is urged to strictly follow the instructions of the municipal authorities and to do everything possible to protect forests, meadows, alpine pastures, and residential areas from fires. The official monitoring agencies will report any violations to the competent authority.

The situation can only improve with continuous rainfall lasting at least two to three days and totaling more than 30 mm/m². Short-term rain showers and thunderstorms have only a minor impact on the current risk situation. Should the situation change significantly, new precautions will be taken and announced.

In the event of a fire, follow this principle: Alert (118) – Rescue – Extinguish General wildfire hazard map for the regions of the Canton of Valais.
